“Building Strong Values”

Greetings from St. Sebastian Catholic Academy!

Welcome back and welcome to all of our new students and their families! We hope you had a wonderful summer. The school building looks terrific and the months of July and August gave us the opportunity to make repairs and spruce up the classrooms. All of the classrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors have been freshly painted. Two offices on the first floor have been refurbished and converted into a Nursery classroom. It looks terrific! We can once again thank the generosity of the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Foundation for their continued interest in St. Sebastian.

We are pleased to announce that we added a 4th Universal Pre K for All and are happy to welcome Miss Diane Haimeck to our faculty. We also welcome Miss Shannon Chiarel to Grade 1-1, Mrs. Kristine Camilleri to Grade 3-1, Mr. Randall Sanabria to grade 5-2, Mr. Kevin Doyle to Grade 7-1. Mr. Sanabria will teach Science to grades 5 and 6 and Mr. Doyle will teach ELA to grades 7 and 8. Mrs. Jackie O’Brien is moving to grade 6-2 and will teach ELA to grades 5 and 6. Mrs. Lorna Iovine will be moving to grade 2-2.

I am happy to formally announce that Mrs. Michelle Picarello (Miss G), will leave the classroom to take on the role of Assistant Principal. Her duties will include but are not limited to curriculum and technology development. I look forward to working with her as we strive to strengthen the many programs we offer.

Sadly, Miss Alexandra Targansky, Miss Amanda Fasano, Miss Kristina LoVerde and Mr. Phil Zito are not returning for the 2016-2017 school year. We thank them for their hard work and wish them well in their new schools. We will miss them!

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 7th, for students in grades 1 through 8. Those students will be dismissed at 12 noon on September 7th, 8th, and 9th. Classes begin for children in Nursery, Pre Kindergarten For All and Kindergarten on Thursday, September 8th and 9th. Please refer to the OPENING WEEK SCHEDULE following this letter. The first full day of school for all students is Monday, September 12th. FYI – Yellow bus service and Extended Day begins today. Please note that school is closed for students on Tuesday, September 13th, to accommodate the State Primary Elections held in the School Auditorium. Classes resume on Wednesday, September 14th.

The office will be open on Wednesday, August 24, 25, 26, from 9 AM until 1 PM and again August 30th until September 1st, should you have any questions. Please keep in mind that all tuition payments must be handled directly with TADS prior to the first day of school. Students will not be permitted to class if payments are not up to date.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, we are anxiously awaiting the beginning of another exciting school year. I am looking forward to working with our Board of Directors and will rely on their expertise in finances, marketing and development to ensure that we offer the very finest in Catholic Education.

Ms. J. Dolan
